Alzheimer's disease is a major public health issue and affects an ever-increasing number of people in France and around the world. It impairs memory, language, gestures and behavior, resulting in a progressive loss of autonomy . The relatives of patients are most often their primary caregivers . Alzheimer's disease is the leading cause of dependency among seniors.
The Foundation dedicates its funds to flagship projects , selected by the best French or European experts, in order to give ever new impetus to research into Alzheimer's disease along three axes:
- encourage national and European synergies
- promote researchers' access to high added-value material
- support institutional projects of excellence (Pitié-Salpêtrière in particular) and attract young researchers to the sector.
