Giraffe numbers have declined by nearly 30% in just over three decades, to around 111,000 in the wild. Giraffes were likely ten times more numerous just a century ago.
Currently, GCF carries out conservation projects in 15 African countries , in collaboration with governments, local communities and other international partners. This includes monitoring giraffe populations through regular research and censuses, anti-poaching actions, as well as the protection of their habitats against deforestation, urbanization, and conflicts with agriculture. The GCF also implements educational programs to raise awareness among local communities and visitors about the importance of giraffe conservation.
