WaterAid is an international organization committed to providing universal access to safe drinking water , adequate sanitation, and promoting good hygiene. Since its creation in 1981, it has worked in 28 countries across Africa, Asia, and Oceania, improving the lives of millions of people by providing these essential services.
1 in 10 people do not have access to clean drinking water . 1 in 4 people do not have a decent toilet . Diarrhea caused by dirty water and poor toilets kills nearly 800 children every day .
The lack of clean water, decent toilets, and good hygiene prevents children from going to school, adults from working, and traps people in poverty.
Thanks to WaterAid , 26.4 million more people now have access to safe drinking water. That's 26.4 million more healthy, independent people around the world, contributing to the economic vitality of their communities. It's a great start, but there's still much work to do .
In addition to installing taps and toilets , they influence governments to change laws , connect national and international policymakers with people on the ground , and pool knowledge and resources.
